The Montana Child Welfare Training Partnership

The Montana Child Welfare Training Partnership is a federally funded collaboration between The University of Montana School of Social Work and the Department of Public Health and Human Services' (DPHHS) Child and Family Services Division (CFSD). The program is designed to provide advanced training to qualified students and prepare them to intervene effectively on behalf of children at risk of out-of-home placement and their families. The program resembles many traditional medical residency programs by requiring students to work as a salaried employee for the CFSD for a designated time period following graduation.

BSW

BSW students who are selected receive $2500 per semester. After graduation, they are required to work as a salaried employee for CFSD six months for every semester the stipend is received. For more information contact Charlie Wellenstein at 406-243-6153 or at charlie.wellenstein@umontana.edu.

Students selected for the program are required to work for CFSD for two years for every academic year (two semesters) the stipend is received. The stipend amount is $15,000 per academic year (two semesters).

Eligible CFSD employees must get approval from their supervisor and regional administrator before being accepted into the program. For more information contact Charlie Wellenstein at 406-243-6153 or at charlie.wellenstein@umontana.edu.
