New Directions: Equipment
Nu Step
The Nu Step is a seated stepper. This machine allows users to move their arms and legs at varying levels of difficulty while sitting down. It is appropriate for people who use wheelchairs, people who have use of only one side of their body, and people whose joints are affected by standing while doing activity.
Pneu Body Weight Support
Because of a grant from the Christopher Reeve Foundation, we can offer this exciting new piece of equipment. Through a hydraulic system, the Pneu Weight machine decreases the user's weight allowing a workout with less pressure from their body. This is helpful for users plagued by joint pain, bodily pain, and/or obesity. Additionally, the Pneu Weight serves as a standing support for people who use wheelchairs. It is helpful as well, to those with balance problems; the harness system allows the user to stand and move without fear of falling.
Uppercycle
The Uppercycle is a cardiac fitness machine. Users of varying abilities move their arms to increase their heart rate. Even those people with limited arm functioning can achieve a cardiac workout with the help of the Uppercycle.
Uppertone
The Uppertone is a fully adjustable and accessible weight lifting machine. It was originally designed by a quadriplegic for wheelchair users. This accessible piece of equipment provides the similar benefits of free weights and is safe for all users.
ERGYS2 Lower Extremity Ergometer
This is an FES bike that uses coordinated electrical stimulation of leg muscles to cycle. This can help decrease muscle atrophy, relax muscle spasms, improve circulation, and more.
New Directions has a variety of additional gym equipment to help serve our clients including treadmills, a leg press, a chest press, and a pulley weight system.
