IPHARM: Improving Health Among Rural Montanans

A native of Hamilton, MT, Rachael received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Montana in 2007. While in school Rachael participated with the IPHARM program, attending events, providing screenings, and earning her Geriatric Health Screening Certificate. After graduation, Rachael moved to Bend, Oregon where she was employed by Costco for two years. She returned to Missoula in the fall of 2009 and joined the IPHARM team in September.

 

 

d_beall.jpgDonna G. Beall, Pharm.D., BCPS, the Project Coordinator for the IPHARM project. Dr. Beall is a Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the Curry Health Center at The University of Montana. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Florida. Dr. Beall has worked in many ambulatory/managed care environments. These positions include being employed as a clinical pharmacy specialist at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida, and the Administrator for Primary Care Clinical Pharmacy Services for Kaiser Permanente in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Beall's research and practice interests include development of disease state management programs and pharmacoeconomic and pharmacotherapy analyses of various disease states such as migraine, depression, women's health issues and preventative care.

Gayle.pngGayle Hudgins, Pharm. D., is Professor and Director of Experiential Education at The University of Montana in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. She is a 1969 graduate of the University of Washington School of Pharmacy with a B.S. degree in Pharmacy and a 1976 graduate of Duquesne University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She also completed a pharmacy practice residency at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Hudgins has specialized in geriatric pharmacy for over twenty-five years, with the majority of her teaching, service and scholarly activity having to do with the elderly. She has made numerous poster and platform presentations on geriatric and other topics, published on geriatric and teaching topics, and has served as a pharmacy consultant to long-term care facilities and a home health-hospice agency. She is co-principal investigator for the Montana Geriatric Education Center, a $1.07 million federally funded project, initiated in July 2002. MTGEC provides support for the IPHARM program through the Geriatric Health Screening initiative.
