Gerontology Fellows Program

Our society is undergoing a dramatic change. In the next forty years, the number of people age 65 and older is expected to double and the number of people age 85 is expected to triple. Social work skills and training in gerontology will be essential as we address the needs of an aging population.

The University of Montana School of Social Work is introducing the Gerontology Fellows Program. This program will provide opportunities to BSW students who are interested in pursuing advanced skills in social work with older adults.

Gerontology Fellows will be offered:
  • Skills development in social work practice with older adults
  • Mentoring relationship with a gerontology professional in the community
  • Support to attend the Montana Gerontology Society annual meeting
  • Enhanced employability, including guidance in career development
Requirements:
  • Gerontology Fellows will be expected to have and maintain a 2.5 overall GPA.
  • Gerontology Fellows will be expected to complete an aging or intergenerational practicum.
  • Gerontology Fellows will be expected to complete a self-designed Gerontology Project through independent study, cooperative education, or omnibus. This project will be designed with the assistance of the Director and in keeping with students' individualized professional interests.
