Welcome to the College of Health! I’m delighted you have taken the opportunity to visit our site and learn more about our College.

As our name implies, the College prepares students to serve in various health professions including athletic training, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, social work, and speech-language pathology although we also help students prepare for entry into other professional health programs through undergraduate advising. We also host a number of undergraduate degrees in communicative sciences & disorders, integrative physiology, public health, and social work while also providing a variety of PhD opportunities for those seeking careers in higher education and research. The College is also home to the Family Medicine Residency Program of Western Montana and hosts the Western Montana Area Health Education Center. Our academic units and clinics provide an interprofessional training zone: students have opportunities to interact with colleagues from other disciplines, both within the College and the University, with whom they will practice when they enter their respective professions. Students also have opportunities to participate in research projects with faculty who pursue academic excellence.

The College has a dedicated and talented faculty with collective expertise in instruction, research and service, all committed to providing a superior academic experience in the classroom, the research laboratory, and in the field. Working in state-of-the-art laboratory environments, many members of the faculty have not only a national but also an international reputation. The Skaggs School of Pharmacy consistently ranks among the top pharmacy schools with extramural funding, and funded researchers can be found in every School of the College. The College is a dynamic place to do research at the basic, clinical and translational levels. Our Centers provide extraordinary research and graduate opportunities in environmental health, translational medicine, neural injury, work physiology & exercise metabolism, swallowing disorders, and movement science among others.

Our College faculty and students occupy the Skaggs Building, Jeannette Rankin Hall, Curry Health Center, and McGill Hall on the beautiful campus of the University of Montana. The Family Medicine Residency Program has residents training at Community Medical Center, St. Patrick Hospital, and Partnership Health Center, all in Missoula, and in Kalispell at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center and Flathead Community Health Center. With respect to off-campus training sites, our students are placed in many diverse learning environments in numerous rural training sites across the entire state of Montana, the Pacific Northwest, and the nation.

It is an exciting time to be a part of one of the professional programs offered in our College. We are blessed to be part of two general areas highly supported by our society–those being health care and higher education. To be able to provide education and research in an environment such as ours is an extraordinary opportunity.
